Origins and Growth

The company’s founder, Renaat Verbrugge, a civil mining engineer, gained firsthand experience with the behavior of soil masses and underground structures in the former coal mines of Limburg.

Following the closure of the mines, the company “REMO BVBA” was founded in 1993, initially operating solely as an engineering firm. The expertise gained previously was put to good use in addressing specific challenges involving poor soil conditions, such as backfilling, compressible soil masses, and excavations along roadways and/or near existing buildings.
The engineering activities were soon expanded to include in-house contracting, partly due to a system patented by Remo for foundations used in residential construction and low-rise apartment buildings of up to 3 or 4 stories on subsoils with low bearing capacity.

In 2003, Eddy Vanackere was hired as Remo BVBA’s first employee. On the job, he learned the trade from Renaat, who quickly proved to be a perfect mentor.

After hard work and toiling in the mud, Eddy earned his place as co-manager in 2013, allowing Renaat to take things a bit easier. Eddy will carry on Remo’s legacy and continues to work on the job sites to this day.
